Canvas age for lib dems...

My sister wants to canvas for the liberal democrats but she is quite young and we were wondering what age if any there is for canvassing???? Thanx guys.

Being a reasonable person(me), I would have thought as it is voluntary unpaid work then 12 would be about right.Anyone else that knows any better please shoot me down in flames.

She is 14 yrs old - do you also know where I would be able to get a hold of the canvassing stuff for her??

I used to go out canvassing when my Mum and Dad were on the local council. I think I started about 11 or 12. If she wants to do it for the Lib Dems, best thing is for her to contact the local party office. Should be in the phone book, or failing that contact the Town Hall. Canvassing should be done in an organised way. we used to 'hit' an area, say 4 or 5 roads, on one day. Also, if she is an organised group, there will be people about to look out for her (assuming no one in the family is going with her). Wasn't really necessary when I was that age, but thats life nowadays.

I don't think that there is a legal age for canvassing but personally, I don't think anyone should do it until they are of voting age. I know I wouldn't be happy with a teenager canvassing me.

sorry, but I'm with thewillow on this one, Don't think its a good idea at all. Isn't there any political activity she could indulge in at school or local youth organisations, I also think that she might be setting herself up for some very unpleasant confrontations

by canvassing do you mean actually knocking on people's doors? or just posting leaflets? I used to help mum and dad with posting leaflets when i was a kid but was never allowed to knock on doors - i wouldn't recommend it as some people tend to get a bit aggressive if they vote for the opposition
