i agree a lot of them are chargeable, i have a few of them but the one i am glad ive got it the a.c.r so if some one calls me they have to show mr the phone number rather than have it witheld

gina32 - many companies, especially double glazing ones and such like, display a phone number when they ring you.

Call back - and you get a recorded message saying the phone is never answered and it doesn't state the company name.

That is hugely annoying when you pay for a service to block this sort of thing.

Yeah, you have to pay for some of them, but i prefer not to have A.C.R
If somebody rings you and theres nobody at the end of the phone, that because its a computer ringint you top check what times you are in. Press 0 three or four times and then wait and keep doing it, see if you get through to an operator, who you can extract the required info from.

ethel if you have the telephone preference service you wont get any cold callers anyway, if i want someone to call me I'LL give them my number so i know its someone i want to hear from

I've been with TPS for years. Now I don't have a landline I don't have these annoying problems. :)

Im with tps and 99.9% of cold calls have stopped but I still get some.

i do have a landline and tcp service and had it for years also and i dont get the calls either but its still good to see who is calling just in case i dont want to talk to them at that moment

gina32.........calls from swithboards like hospitals have withheld numbers. Better to have a visual-number window on phone and leave 'withheld' numbers to the ansafone?
