It is a low growing woody stemmed herb, preferrs a well drained soil on lime and a reasonable amount of sun. It grows wild all over the uk, particularly on the Mendips and South Downs, though sheep graze it into a prostrate form. It is essentially evergreen, and can be used as an edging or even lawn plant.
