How much is the salary for a SAS soldier , being elite are they the best paid military?
Also are all ex -sas allowed the right to reveal their identities if they wish?

why would you want to reveal? An SAS Trooper is paid in line with other soldiers - additional pay is in line with regulations - should an SAS Trooper be paid more than a Bomb Disposal Operator? many more examples could be given - money is not the ultimate driver...

I'm not sure what riskman is saying here. I think he's saying that the base pay is as if the soldier was not Special Forces, but that SF receive a range of allowances in addition, which is how I believe it works. These allowances are considerable.

Regular pay but with some extra incentives.

However it must be said that they can be deramked from their parent regiment so may actually lose some salary.

Regarding the secrecy, they are Defence Vetted and therefore subject to the Official Secrets Act. And remember even the Government do notask questions about SAS involvement.

The secrecy is not a bravado thing, it is a health and safety thing. If you ever meet anybody in the pub who says they are SAS or even ex-SAS, safely bet your house they are lying.

welcome - yes i am saying that there is no such thing as SAS pay - there is however pay for 'additional' skills - these may be how to dispose of Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) or how to be a 'Special Soldier' - take what you are due but never brag...

Actually looking at regular Army Pay is not going to tell you how much SAS soldiers get.

A basic trooper now gets nearly �40,000 per year as they have recently had a 50% pay increase.

This means that higher ranking members do get up to and beyond �75,000. For example a Major now gets about �80,000 following the pay increase.

In addition to the second part of the question, ex-special forces soldiers are free to reveal their previous occupation if they wish, however they are not permitted to discuss any of the operations they took part in.

However many ex SAS/SBS chose not to reveal what they used to do through personal choice.

ok here is the truth,
you CAN earn up to or above 75k a year but i highly doubt that norm has reached that far up in the ranks of the SAS, and even if he had, i doubt he woul be wasing his time on something like this!
next thing, my DAD was in the SAS, not as a regular but as a reserve, hes told me all about the training exercises which i will explain if you dont beleive me. and he told me when the falklands war came, they wanted to get sent to the war, but wernt. They were trained to stop the russians from invading the west was what he told me and not trained for the falklands. (although that has changed now) . he left before northern ireland happened. they are the best paid military as well, but it is in accordance to your rank.

The SAS are paid in-line with the green army. They are entitled to special forces pay once they have completed their 'patrol skills' this is further training held once the soldier has passed selection. I do not believe pay is according to rank as you are a trooper upon completion of selection no matter what your rank in the Green army.

In regards to revealing their identity... Well, the SAS is somehow the biggest regiment in the world even though it's the smallest regiment in the British army. There's always some dick head in every local pub in the UK claiming to have been in the SAS even though they were probably some crap hat in the green army for about 3 years.

As for the SAS(R) (reserves) I believe they are also entitled to special forces pay.

I'm not certain about the swimmer canoeists of the SBS or the walts in the SRR.

British SAS pay isn't the same as the Regular Army, TA 21 & 23 SAS get around £100 working day, which is about the same as the Regular Regiment, This won't be posted on the British Army plus for your information Ash "Generals" actually get paid a lot more than 80k a year, for it depends on which band you are on.
