I heard recently that you cannot burp in space as the lack of gravity prevents gas and liquids being separated in the stomach. Presumably this means that you cannot fart either.

If this is true, what do astronauts do to prevent a fatal build-up of intestinal gasses?

The release of bodily gases is to do with the gas building up pressure and finding the easiest way out. Nothing to do with gravity.
Mind you, it would hang around a bit!
