After we've totally knackered all the earths resources i'm fairly sure old mother nature will reveal an ace up her sleeve to teach us mere humans that the world was here before us and shall be after we've gone.

so that's not exactly how the world ends, is it? or are you all talking about mankind? I think the end of the human race will be the best thing that could happen to earth. after all, we are just some kind of infection. as for the end of the world, i think the sun is not big enough to explode. but it might expand to a red giant and swallow earth on its way. something like that, anyway

Thekraut is partly correct - the Sun will become a red giant in about 5,000 million years time. But there is a sub-theory which says that the sun will have burnt up so much of itself by then that it will have lost mass and therefore its gravity will have weakened. If so, the earth's orbit will have drifted much further out, and the Earth will be too far away from the Sun to be evaporated. In that case, it would eventually drift off into space as a cold lump of rock.

As far as the government are concerned, we are becoming an 'obese' nation! So, if that's the case, the world would run out of space & simply explode!

A lot sooner I'm afraid. The author of The Bible Code that predicted The 9/11 Twin Towers event states that the code predicts that the World will end in 2006 thru a nuclear armageddon!!
