Tyre Inner Tubes

My daughter asked me why bicycles have inner tubes in their tyres but cars don't.

I couldn't answer.

Some don't.

It is expensive to seal the spoked wheel, bikes cost a lot more with tubeless tyres.

Car wheels are easy to seal and tubeless are more reliable and easier to change the tyres.

Toureman's right. The air would leak out past the ends of the spokes. Many years ago, my dad built a sports car, and got some old wire-spoked wheels for it. He had to have the ends of the spokes welded over to seal them so he could fit tubeless tyres.

I have just repaired a puncture on my bike which is how the conversation came up.

I wouldn't know how to do it if it was tubeless, so I suppose an inner tube helps us amateurs.

I don't think you can repair bike tubeless tyres, there only used on expensive race bikes, just renew them.

You can purchase anti-punture tyres, these are made of a solid type of foam substance, and are used mainly for all terrain cycling.
