I've got an ipod, but only because I won it in a competition, both my teenage kids have mp3 players.

The pros of a mp3 player is that you can plug it into practically any computer and put songs on it, whereas with an ipod it is synched to one computer and you can only put songs on and take them off your ipod on that pc.

My kids have both had more than one mp3 player each as they have all stopped working in just over a year, my ipod is still going after about 3 years, although I don't tend to use it that much.

Most mp3 players are a lot cheaper than an ipod, but it depends on what you like the look of and how brand conscious you are. BTW the mp3 players by kids had were all Creative brand and they have all failed so if I was buying one, I wouldn't buy that make again.
You will have to send an iPod to Apple when it needs a new battery - a nice little earner there for Apple. Whereas MP3 players use readily available batteries. Try to get an MP3 player that will easily let you play any song on it (without having to scroll through the entire list before you get the one you want) and remembers the song last played.
I had two ipods, and they arent what there made out to be, mine kept crashing all the time. I have a new shiny mp3 player, plus everyone else has a ipod
An ipod and an mp3 players are basically the same thing.

"ipod" is a brand name for an Apple mp3 player, whereas "mp3 player" is the generic name for all mp3 players.

It is a bit like when people call a vacuum cleaner a "hoover". The name hoover is a brand name, but we all use it to describe a vacuum cleaner.

So many people say "ipod" when they actualy mean "mp3 player".
You say you didnt have a computer.

I dont think there is any other way of getting music on to an mp3 player than by plugging it into a computer.

So if you have not got a computer you may not be able to get your music on to your mp3 player.
