Telephone problems but not broadband......
4 Answers
I'm still getting my broadband service via a telephone cable but my telephone is dead.
I'm sure if I contact BT and they do a line test it will be fine as when I ring my house I can hear the ringing tone down the 'phone I'm using but the house 'phone is silent.
The house phone itself only produces crackle and static which I noticed lessened once I switched my router off.
I do have a 'micro-whatsit' (technical term) on the line and nothing, as far as I am aware, has changed since the start of the week when everything was fine.
Any ideas ?

Before calling BT, you need to establish that the problem is not on your premises. Hopefully you have a modern master socket (NTE5A), like this:

Undo the two screws and withdraw the lower part - you'll see a socket inside - plug a phone in and see what happens. If it works, you've something wrong in the house. If it doesn't, you can report it to BT safe in the knowledge that you won't be charged.
