The smoke alarm fitted in our lounge goes off when making toast, even if the toast doesn't burn.
Consequently, the alarm spends a lot of its time inoperative with the battery disconnected. BAD, I know !
I was thinking it might be a good idea for an alarm to be fitted with a timing device which, once a mute button is pressed, turns the alarm off, for say ,20-30 mins before resetting itself .
I have searched for such an alarm but without success.
I'm sure there are many smoke alarms around the country which are disabled in some way due to them going off during normal cooking activities, and have not been reconnected.
I had the same problem and ours has been disconnected for ages! I do have another one half way up the stairs though so i didnt worry too much!!!!! Yesterday I had a home safety check from our local fire brigade and when i asked them about it, they said it was in the wrong place and I should have one in the hall and one at the top of the stairs! They fitted me two free of charge! If you get in touch with your local fire service they may well do the same check and fit you some new ones!
just a thought! if for any reason you dont want a home safety check the smoke alarms they fitted are Dicon battery operated photoelectric ones! and they do have an alarm pause on them
just had a quick look at the leaflet they left me, it says the alarm will automatically reset itself after ten minutes, so perhaps not as long as you were hoping for im afraid
hey let me help you with a little trick i have learnt cover it with a shower cap whilst cooking and take it off after thats what do cause i just got a new fire alarm put in
we know do same a stewey and put toaster on the hob when we use it ( hob switched off of course lol) under the extractor fan and have a tea towel ready to waft under smoke alarm if it still goes off lol
