yup, our first fridge was a gas one...you still can find botled gas ones in boats and caravans
You're showing your age woofgang!
My father still has a gas fridge, coz he's on a farm with only solar power. Gas fridges are still available & are more reliable, apparently ....but then he is an old foggie
Yes it was amazing, for the first time, mum didn't have to go out and kill a fresh dinosaur everyday....and we didn't need to leave the leftovers out for the sabre toothed tigers
About ten years ago I was staying with friends who were living and working in the Serengeti region of Tanzania. No mains anything - no water, electricity gas, telephone; "long-drop" latrine. But they had got an Electrolux fridge-freezer - the same as the one I had at home. The difference was that while mine was electric, theirs had a shallow paraffin heater under the bottom compartment. It had to be cleaned out every week - wick trimmed, etc -- but it did produce ice. There's nothing better than being in the middle of nowhere, watching an East African sunset with a gin and tonic with ice.

Most caravans and campers have three way fridges i.e. operated by either 240v, 12 v (for transit) or gas.
I had one in my first flat in the early 70s and, since owning camper coaches have had them again.
I have one for sale old but works well was in a camper van 25.00 its small i dont think it would be any good for the home a garage or some thing like that nice in sommer
