Why would you want a car without a reverse gear?
Whaaaaat?
I think starline is referring to bubble cars and the like which could be driven on a provisional license and had no reverse gear - not sure why or how (born in the 70's) - must have made parking hellish.
You was allowed to drive a three wheeled car on a provisional licence, dont know if that what you mean, but that reminded me what Jasper Carrot said that so many people died in there bubble cars because to get out of them the front windscreen open like a door so when you drove into your garage up to the wall, with no reverse gear. HELP..... he. he. gets me every time.
It used to be the case that you could drive a three-wheeled car with reverse gear disabled on a motorcycle license, but the categories changed many years ago and this is no longer the case. In fact, the motorcycle license restrictions are quite tough now. http://www.dvla.gov.uk/drivers/vehicle_cat_desc.htm#Note%202
