Yup. You stop breathing when you die, therefore your heart stops beating, blood can't get to your brain so that shuts down and therefore thoughts and memories disappear. What do you think happens to them?
It is best not to think about this too much other wise you will go crazy, just like my invisible friend Conel Schwartz. It is similar to thinking if there was nothing before the big bang where did everything come from.

I would think tts just like going to sleep, it all goes dark and everything is blank. Before anybody mentions dreams these don't happen untill the REM stage, there is a period between this where the mind is still.
what we need is someone to come back an tell us.
Peace perfect peace - that's it!
It makes everything seem such a waste doesn't it (unless you are religious - which I am definately NOT). My father died recently and it is so sad to think that all of his unique memories and experiences have gone with him.
Try very hard to "remember" something from before you were born. I don't mean from what you've been told or seen in films etc. just from your memory. Well, that will give you some idea for the future. Some ideas and memories cary on in other people's heads, so try to make a good and lasting impression on society for the brief time that you are here.
yup it is sad but it is part of the human condition. always hopeful despite inevitable sadness.
Since no one has ever yet returned to life with an account of what happened after death, the sensible conclusion is, nothing..!! But as a matter of fact, those with a Christian belief that doesn't get entirely corroded and destroyed by the scepticism of the world in general know that Jesus himself raised three different people from the dead in the course of his short ministry, in order to prove the reality of God's power in that direction. And thinking people might then sensibly ask themselves "Why didn't those people who came back give a full account of where they went and what they saw, so that it could be written down and remembered for future generations ?" And the only possible reliable answer would be, because they actually remembered absolutely nothing of their own death - because death is exactly what Jesus himself said it is - a deep sleep, from which all those sleeping, safe in God's eternal memory, are eventually going to be awakened. This is the simple reality of what the Bible actually teaches - without the misunderstandings, corruptions and outright lies of generations of church "fathers", and all their hangers-on.
your thoughts and memories are all held by the interaction of synapses in the brain, in the same way a computer's memory bank stores memory. When you pull the switch on the computer's memory the memory is wiped. Unfortunately the same happens at death - your brain goes into autolysis (decay) and the synapses break down - all the memory cells are permanently lost. What happens to you after that is the big million dollar question and nobody knows.
Well dont panic, the way the brain stores info means that even if you had an afterlife you wouldnt remember dying, the same way you cant remember falling asleep, HA HA!
