Yes but its a crime to do this - see Anti-piracy laws.

Yes I very much understand that and I have no wish to rip anybody off but what do you do when the original is no longer available...
resubmit question in technology section !!
Download DVD Shrink and Nero

DVDShrink will carke he codes and shrink the file to fit a disc. Nero burns the dvd to disc.
you could try an application called DVD Shrink. many download sites have it and it is a good way of re-authoring a DVD i.e. removing the Danish subtitles for example and gets around many DRM restrictions. However as mentioned you should not make a copy of any copyrighted DVD without authorisation unless for your own personal use.
You need a copying program such as DVD Shrink

Read the instructions but it is quite easy.

and then a burning programme such as Nero to get it onto a blank DVD
haha. three posters giving the same answer at the same time. bizarre!!!!
Or take the legal route and buy it used from eBay, Amazon or the myriad of sites that sell that sort of thing,
There is another way IF you have the equipment or know someone who has. A DVD will copy to video no problem, so using a DVD recorder combo or the right leads, you can copy to video and then copy back to a blank DVD. Time consuming but it works.
I notice that PC world are selling blank DVDs with 8 Gbytes. Does this mean they do not need to be shrunk?
correct. Most films rented or purchased will be between 3.5 - 7.5gb. Anything above the normal 4.7gb will have to be compressed using DVD Shrink. But you will still need to use either DVD Shrink or DVD Decrypter to crack the piracy protection.
magic DVD ripper will also rip to several formats that most dvd playter will play

Ethel is right, you should not circumvent copyright. Buy the new DVD off ebay instead, and pay the cash. That dvd will probably be a copy, but at least you're helping the economy.
If you wanted to copy your own homemade dvd or a program off telly to watch later, probably a good place to start would be dvd fab.

Don't copy it yourself but pay money to buy a copy off somebody else?
What planet are you on?!
planet honest? Drop by sometime. Nonetheless, there comes a time when something you want isn't available, even on eBay.
Planet honest? Buying a pirated copy off someone else on eBay is honest then is it?
Which is what Vorv was saying.
phew, thank you jno.

Avatar: here's a few steps to try to avoid confusion in the future.
-poster seems to be saying something which is patently stupid or dangerous or illogical
-consider whether poster *assumes* that this will be seen as such by most people
-if so, consider that poster is using this register as a means of expressing the *irony* that the main method of avoiding copyright circumvention (viz buying off ebay) is in fact itself going to reward copyright circumvention.
-Consider that this also seeks to highlight the great number of copyright dvds on ebay.
-consider that if you miss these points at first glance, don't try saying 'what planet are you on', but ask 'have I missed something' or 'is she joking'?
Clear?

I understand what you are all saying, but as I said I have no wish to rip anybody off I simply want a copy of a DVD for what will be personal use (for a mate) ... But I do have to ask that if its illegal to copy protected discs why can companys openly sell programs that are made purely to get around anti-copying ?
Consider whether the poster is a pretentious numpty more like.

HTH HAND
for the same reason that car manufacturers are allowed to sell cars that can surpass the speed limit of our roads.
