Been chatting with a mate and his new canadian girlfriend wants to come and live in spain for a while. I was wondering - I imagine that a standard tourist visa would allow her access to Spain for maybe 3 months. At the end of that time, if she flies to the UK, can she then come back Spain for another 3 months and do that indefinitely? Or for maybe a year anyway? I would say drive to France, which would be easier of course but they have a proper open border without so much as an immigration official to be seen. I've driven over the border a few times and you don't even stop, so I don't know if they even have them there anymore! Many thanks.

As you thought she can stay in Spain for 90 days without a visa. http://www.spainconsul-ny.org/!consula.doi/!visatou.htm There may well be restrictions on a quick trip away and back of the sort you are suggesting, you'd need to check that out but it's likely they won't approve
My wife is Canadian. She came here as a tourist a couple of times.. but after that if we wanted to stay together it was marriage.. living together wasn't an option open to us. The best thing you can do is check with the Canadian Embassy in London, or the one in Ottawa (I believe that's where it is). It will cost lots of money and a wait for the paperwork.
What would be the point of driving into France? If there are no border controls, nobody would know she had done it.
