aga- is it really good to cook on one?

I'm inheriting an oil- type aga in my my new house and know nothing about them.
Anybody got any tips?

Agas, are great. I love them. Although saying that, when I have had one I have needed another cooker as well. Baking in an aga is lovely as is making a risotto.

It's brilliant for keeping food warm and we used to put porridge in the bottom draw and leave it to cook overnight.

Thanks,why do you need another cooker,is it because there aren't enough 'rings'?
They can get a bit too hot to have on throughout the summer.

We have a Rayburn which is like an Aga but does the hot water too.

From about now to Late september it gets switched off and we use a gas ring and microwave.

They're great for some sorts of cooking because they give you a very dry heat. Crackling on pork, pizzas, baked potatoes stuff like that is brilliant. Not quite so great if you want a really hot ring for something like a stir fry and it takes a while for it to get up to heat - that's why a gas ring or something like that is good to go with them.

Really rather depends on your way of life
