I have just bought a new laptop but on my old computer i have a cd creator programe how do i copy it to a disc so i can install it on my laptop (no rocket science please im just a beginer)

you cant. You need the original installation cd or file.

In earlier days some propgrames were able to be copied across by simply copy and pasting across all the files from the Program Files folder, but that wont work.

You can download most programes from bittorrent

go to www.mininova.org and do a search

the go to www.utorrent.com and dowload the bittorrent client, which allows you to download the files.

As your a beginner I would ask someone to help you.

just put cd creator into google and loads of free downloads there.

I guess your new computer is running Windows Vista, and maybe your old computer was running Windows XP, or even something older.

If that is the case it is unlikely that a program that runs under XP (or earlier) would run under Vista.

Many companies had to update their software to run on Vista.

Any CD creator software you get, make sure it works under Vista.

I'd be quite surprised if a new lappy didn't come with some sort of burning software - it may not be the one you are familiar with, but they all work in a similar fashion.

also windows can do a a fair amount of your burning needs with no extra software at all.

Thanx for all your answers but what I wanted to know was how do I get the programe to copy on to a disc (I have the CD burner but have not the faintest idea of how to get it from computer to disc.)

Which operating system did you have on your old computer and what is the name of the CD copying programme you wanted to copy over to your new laptop?
Also, please confirm which operating system you have on your new laptop?
All the previous answers have valid points to make, but to give a more objective answer, needs a little more info.
Whichever CD/DVD creator programme you end up using, you will find it easiest to follow the route of copying the disc you want into what is called an 'image file' of the disc onto your hard drive. You then remove the original disc and replace it with a blank recordable disc, then copy the 'image file' you have on your hard drive (usually the C drive) back onto this disc.
The CD creator programme will give you the prompts as you go along. Roxio Easy CD Creator is very good at this. It helps the programme if you can tell it what kind of data you're copying, be it audio, photographs or just data. These choices come up when you open the programme. Hope this helps.

Thanx for your answer my old computer is on windows 98, the laptop is on XP, i have several programs off of the old one and they run OK, the programe i want is Roxio 5 but i do not have the original disc thats why i need to get a copy from the old computer, hope this all makes sense to you...

sprayer, in light of your latest reply, then you need to see the first reply from spaced who is totally correct.

You cannot install Roxio without the original CD.

As spaced says, in the "old" days, when you installed a program on a computer all it actually did was copy the files from diskette or CD onto your hard drive.

This is no longer the case.

When a program is installed nowadays it has to "register" itself with Windows and update a Windows system file called the "registry" with lots of details about itself.

If these updates are not done a program will not work.

These updates can only be done using the installation program on the original product CD.

There are a couple of Easy CD Creator 5 programmes up on EBay, one is ending tomorrow, currently at �4.99.
Worth a look. Sorry if you've seen it already.

Having said that, if you can get Easy CD Creator 8 or 10 you'll find it much easier on Windows XP. Worth the extra and it won't be that unfamiliar to you.
I go regularly to my local British Computer Fair and you'll see many bargains there, plus people of similar interests who just love talking about all things computers.

Cheers for your advice rccatnap (and everybody else) I will look for creator 8 or 10 as I have been told that 5 does not work too good on XP anyhow, so you may have saved me a lot of problems ( I only wanted it to make the jewel case inserts anyway as I already have a programme that will burn discs ) so thanx to you all for your help !!!

Again, I'd be surprised if your burning software doesn't also have an insert creator element. If not, Google around - there are plenty of free options. (Unfortunately I can't - without being naughty - get to free software sites from work).
