ipod problem

got a problem with my older version apple ipod. was carrying upstairs with some other things and when i looked at the screen it said it doing a scan. now it says
Read Verify Scan ie title
battery check
volts =467
level = 9
charge ok!
test ok


so from reading this i assume it has done the scan
then at the bottom it says menu to continue but when i press it nothing happens. i cant even seem to turn it off. any ideas how to get it back to playing music?!! help!!!

under the heading it says
Scan takes a while. so do you think i still have to wait given that it is already okayed charge, test etc?
