Can anyone give me a definite, simple answer to my following dilemma. I want to buy a Vauxhall Astra Estate, Design model. Would petrol be a better buy than a diesel? The MPG for the 1.6 petrol is 44 The MPG for the 1.7 diesel is 56
You may liie to know the stated figure for the Astra is wrong - I have a 1.5 2005 and the most I can get is 38mpg - you will have to take into the account the mileage you do and the higher cost of diesel.
Hi, A few answers to you question, Fuel, Better with a derv, Reliability, Dervs are now cleaner, Loger services less cost to your pocket, life span depending on how you look after the motor Eg/ regular services etc,150.000+ Resellable, No comparison dervs are better & hold their price, Adavantage, No damp starting problems, A work horse will stand the hard slog of everyday life, History ask a local Comp what sort of miles their trucks do, the one I drove many years ago 200,000 no problem.
When going to get an Astra Design we initially wanted to go for a diesel.
A guy at one of the dealerships asked about our usage which is not much as we both live within walking distance of work so he said it would be far more economical to buy a diesel unless the saving between petrol and diesel prices would be levelled out by uses.
