The aisle seat on buses/trains

This has annoyed/baffled me for years.
Why do people sit on the aisle seat of buses and trains when the window seat is unoccupied? Then when you ask to sit down, instead of moving over they move aside to let you sit at the window seat.
Is it because they don't want to sit next to anyone so they then try and block the window seat?
Or is it that they don't want to sit in the window seat because then they'll have to ask the person in the aisle seat to move when they want to get off?
Or is it that they just sit there without thinking anything?
Any ideas anyone?

Oh most definately trying to hog two seats as they dont want to share with someone else, what gets my goat, on buses, is when two friends sit across the aisle from each other taking up four seats and then proceed to lean into the aisle to talk to each other. And what really annoys me when a bus is busy is when someone hogs two seats and makes no effort to move bags extra so someone can sit in that seat, moan over....
oops that should read move bags etc,,
I like to sit on the aisle, always. I like to be able to stretch my legs and elbows.

If you want to sit with me, you can have the window seat, but you're not having my aisle seat. I was here first.

I have a disability which has left me with a stiff left leg and as a result I try to sit in an RH aisle seat so that if it is not causing a nuisance I can stretch my leg in the aisle however if it's crowded and you have no other option you have to take what you can get. Like you I've noticed this habit and it is annoying when there is no special need for it and I personally move along if necessary or if my leg is playing up explain to the person concerned why I prefer the aisle seat and usually they are more then happy to accept this
You must be a man. I bet there isn't a woman alive who hasn't been trapped in the seat by a man who is trying to touch her up.

Horrid.
cant say i have, what buses did you used to catch ethel!!
Oh! Maybe I look devastatingly beautiful so men couldn't resist.

Or desperate.

:(
i too, have never been touched up on a bus :(
Don't start me off on the bad manners of people on buses and trains
.I was on a bus a couple of days ago that has a space for people with buggies or prams .Two grown men sat there and watched this lady struggle with her buggy and refused to move in spite of a sign saying that the seats were for prams, buggies etc.
So I moved and the lady next to me moved so she could squeeze in. I ended up with half a bum cheek hanging off an aisle seat because the girl sat next to me couldn't have the good manners to put her handbag on her lap !
And I am registered as disabled !
I thought people chose the isle seat so they wouldn't get glass smashed in their faces when kids throw rocks at the bus/train while passing.
This must have stayed with me after watching a video about it in primary school, which left passengers with bleading heads. Strange isn't what we think..
So with you on the bad manners JCL53, i travel on a regular basis on buses and have seen on many occasion very bad manners from passengers both young and old.
Claustrophobics do not feel comfortable when hemmed in, so there's one obvious reason why some people quite innocently use the aisle seat. Another - on trains at least - is the fact that many people have weak bladders or are suffering from a stomach upset on the day and require an easy exit. In this case, their seating is an act of politeness to any later passenger, not of deliberate annoyance.
I simply cannot see why anybody should object to someone occupying the outside seat, since I have never heard of any such person refusing to stand up and let the newcomer sit down by the window.
There is no need at all for their decision to be either annoying or baffling.
Men like the aisle seats on planes so that they can watch the air hostesses' butts.

Fact.
I don't like it when someone chooses the window seat on a plane and then closes the blind!
I always choose an isle seat cos I hate being hemmed in, I get up to let someone else in at the window AND the heaters are always on at the window side and I dont like that.
On a plane I like a window seat to view the earth below, but on a bus I like the aisle seat so I don`t have to bother the person next to me when I get off.
i always sit on an aisle seat, and yeah this is partly to deter people sitting next to me but because it annoys me when the bus is practically empty and your sitting by a window and someone chooses to sit next to me when there is a whole bus of seats to choose from. They are usually stinking of B.O or overpowering perfume/aftershave. If someone asks me to move over i just let them sit then move somewhere else or stand!! I also hate the heaters on window side AND i have v long legs so its uncomfortable to sit cramped up. But i always offer my seat to elderly etc. And would rather stand than sit next to some stinking pig or blokes that squash right up next to you!! Yuck
So sorry if that annoys/bafffles anyone but i will never change my "bus habits"
Most people do this so they don't have a fat sweaty bloke sitting next to them....
