Ford Transit Servicing

Hi....just bought a 2.5 diesel and feel as though it could do with a good servicing. Power is dropping off drastically on hills, needing to drop down gears, and top speed struggles to reach 60. Any advice most appreciated. Ta.

OK, obviously we're trying to do something on the cheap here so as for the fuel starvation possibility just try with the vehicle in neutral planting your foot on the accelerator and if it revs and screams like crazy with rocking around and backfiring I'd say that the motor seems to be running OK but let's face it your'e there we're here and you'll just have to do trial and error.
Do't you have some friend that could hazard a better guess than we're trying with???.
If the motor is running smoothly and you can rev the guts out of it and it only crawls in low gear then it could as I've said before be a ratio problem but someone close at hand should be able to help much better than any of us with the info you've provided.
ok going out on a limb here but does it have a Catalytic Convertor?
The problems you are describing sound similar to the one's we had on our car and although I told Husband I thought it was the Cat that was up the creek he disagreed .... until it finally blew up hehehehe!!!
Admittedly with more than a little help from me wellying the revs and accelorator ... but my point was proven and we finally got a new one.
Didn't half go with a bang ... I was told I had shattered it beyond belief inside!! Women always do a good job hahahaha.
