is it safe to open the microwave whilst cooking is taking place because i went ape at hubby the other day because he opened it and the light had not gone off.i'm sure i remember when back in the 70's there was a real problem with radiation or did i imagine it?

Yes it is safe as the microwaving switches off as soon as the door is opened, also when I open my microwave the light automatically switches on.

People didn't understand the new fangled microwaves in the 70s so they believed all the myths that surrounded them.
Well it's not ionising radiation encee, like you'd get from being exposed to x-rays, and your oven WOULD switch off automatially, but on the other hand, I've often wondered why you can test those things trhat test for leaks. If it's "safe" - why would you need to do that?
We dont have a microwave at all as i believe they are one of the main reasons for every tom dick and harry getting cancer these days but each to their own eh.
i think that's a brilliant reason, kevo!!! Then again - I'm the same about mobile phones and radio masts!!!
