GP does not see children for evening appointments

My GP does not see children for evening appointments- only in the mornings -is he allowed to this? - surely this would be in breach of local NHS trust guidelines- or can he act carte blanche?

i know i always go on about them, but contact your loacal patient advice and liaison service (at the PCT) - they will be able to sort this out for you

I thought that the evening appts were really for people that worked!!!

Hi, I think that common sense should prevail???

I am almost certain that no doctor would refuse to see a child in the evening in an emergency.

Appointments and emergencies are two different things.

GPs do not have to offer evening appointments at all. It is only the recently negotiated contract with the Government that has seen GPs receive an incentive to offfer extra hours i.e. more money on top of their usual �250,000 annual turnover.

I am a member of my surgery patient group and although they offer appointments they make a point of saying it is for those who cannot come dureing the day due to work or careing responsibilities and must be booked at least a day in advance. They don't see emergancy cases and if anyone knocked on the door they would turn them away.

As long as they offer the appointments I think they can do what they like.

People are completely forgetting -that children would therefore have to miss school for a morning only appointment- and Puddicatt- parents who are at work are the ones who would need to accompany a child for evening appt!!! duh!
