chimney cowels

Hi, can someone please tell me the difference between the chimney cowels please and what they do. Thanks

Cowels are designed to prevent downdraughts, which can be caused by wind spilling over a roofline, to stop rain from falling into the chimney, and to stop birds from using chimneys as a nest site. The various designs are the result of different people thinking they have a better solution to these problems. Some are simple caps, others can swivel so as to always have their backs to the wind, which helps to draw out the smoke.
