The most straightforward book on basic astronomy I've found is Anton Vamplew's Stargazing Secrets published by Collins. However I picked it up in one of theose shops that sell remaindered aon bankrupt stock books, so it may not be in print. One of the things I like about it is that it includes photos of the sky with the star maps, so you can match the map to a photo of the real sky, if you see what I mean.
You will need a telescope, obviously. And a SLR camera, also pretty obvious, then you need an adapter to fit the two together. Any decent photography / telescope shop will stock these.
