My friend is trying to change the password from the factory default user name and password for security purposes. the router is Dynamode 802.11g, we went online, got to the relevant site and when we got to change the password , whatever we try it just comes up with ERROR, we can get to typing the original details, but all we want to do is change it, we have retyped it twice and all we get is this stupid ERROR message, but it isn't saying what the error is, it's really frustrating as it should be a simple thing to do. We are using the correct amount of characters. Please help as it is their son's laptop that we want to get up and running before Christmas day,

We are into the laptop and have got onto the internet, using the wireless router which is great, but we need to change the router's factory settings as it is not really secure and we want to change the user name and password to make it all secure and less prone to nasty hackers. Whenever we try to change the password it comes up with ERROR , we went on the www and got the right page up and went to change the password, which should be easy and it wont let us change it. hope this helps.
What password are you trying to change?

The one for logging into the routers admin pages ore the wireless access one?

Though as long as you have the security setup for the wireless then it's not a massive risk in leaving both as default.

it is the wireless router user name and password that we are having trouble with, it is at the moment in the factory default setting and we need to change the user name and password on the website for the wireless router to a stronger one, They already had a virgin modem and have bought the Dynamode 802.11g wireless router. I'm now wondering how easy it would be for someone to get into their wireless system, that's why we would prefer to have a stronger password to stop anyone getting in.
You won't be able to change the user name, that will always be the same.

I wouldn't worry too much about the password to log into the router, before that becomes relevant somebody would have to crack the wireless security key or physically plug a cable into the router (which means they have already broken into your house!)
.
Just make sure you use wep or a wpa encription code - wpa is supposed to be better if your laptop suports it. Other security measures are to turn off ssid broadcast which means the name of the network is not advertised if anybody searches for it . you can only find it if you know the name. Also change the channel to another other than defult.

Do a search in google for it, lots of tips for making it nice a secure.
