I am having a problem with my Canon DC311 DVD camcorder.

The disk seems to be corrupted and the camcorder does not recognize the disk. I keep getting the message 'Recovering Data Please Wait.'

All I want to do is open the disc cover so I can remove it. Is there a way of opening the cover manually? Its really starting to get to me now as it was a present and I haven't been able to use it since Christmas.

if removing the battery and leaving it a few hours before trying again does not help - whatever you do, don't try to poke or force the door. these are tricky to work on even for techs, and all you will do is muck it up beyond economical repair.
without the necessary tools and service data, your chances of sorting this out are about nil - take it to a tech for a proper diagnosis.

Considering the amount of money I had to spend to buy the thing, I think you're right and taking it to the professional is the way to go.
