 i have just brought a 1972 vw camper with a gas frindge and i need help with switching on

If it wont light after several attempts and you hve checked that it is sparking and there is a gas supply available, then you probably have rust on the gas jet. The flame (when its working) has a mild steel chimney above it and after a few years of heating up and cooling down it starts to go rusty. Small bits of rust fall off and land on top of the gas jet causing it not to light.

There might, of course, be another reason for it not lighting but this is is what happened to mine.

 Push in the red button,after lighting it you have to hold it in  until the thermostic coupling is hot for about 10 secs. If the light goes out then the jet may be blocked.If it lights and stays on but the fridge doesn't get cold check the metal gauze above the flame, if its blocked ir deflects the heat away from the element.Is it an electronic lighter or do you need to put a flame to it?
