any chance someone knows how to check when a website has been updated?

goto website you want to check post the following into the browser address bar and hit enter

javascript:alert(document.lastModified)

Remember a lot of sites, like this one, are dynamically created (ie the page doesn't really exist until you view it then it's created for you) so they will always show when you looked at the page as the modified time/date
Remember also that a web site can consist of hundreds of web pages, so while one page may have been updated yesterday, other pages on the site may not have been touched for 2 years.

It depends why you want to know this information, and what you then plan to do with the information.
Some websites have an atom or RSS feed available (many blogs, for example).

You could grab this feed and do something with it, like giving it to Google Reader to monitor. Then just check Google Reader periodically, and new items from the website that you haven't seen yet will be shown.
