I am running windows XP, I know how to change my desktop background picture by going to control pannel, display, desktop, there I get a list of all the factory loaded pictures or I can click on browse and import a picture from my own files my question is how do I get it to stay on the list as if I import another picture later the first one is removed from the list but the factory loaded ones all remain

copy the picture to

c:\windows\web\wallpaper
You don't need it on the list.

In 'My Pictures' right click on any picture and a menu pops up, including an option to 'Set as desktop background'
Or,if you have Picasa click on picture then `Create` and click on it to find what you want.
