catalytic converters

I have just had a new catalytic converter fitted to my Renault Laguna RXE 2.0 Auto, and over the last 2 days their has been a eggy type smell in the car, although it does disapear is this common with new ones.

It's 'cos it is a new one. It should stop smelling after a week or so, depending on how much you use your car.
The egg type smell is coming from your cat, I suggest you take it back to the garage and get it checked for leaks, Cats do smell of rotten eggs, but only from the rear of the car.

As said, they do smell when new. And i would go and get it checked immediately for leaks, sometimes the grommet where the handbrake cable passes through the cars body comes off. If the fumes are coming in it can be lethal. 

Ratter15 is right. If you can smell hydrogen sulphide inside the car, your exhaust is leaking. Your sense of smell will become less sensitive to H2S as you drive. H2S and carbon monoxide, which is also leaking out of the exhaust and into the car, are both deadly. Get it checked.
