i have sky plus at the min. i am looking to put another tv upstairs and was thinking of just getting a freeview box for it. don't know much about freeview, so i was wondering does it need to be connected to any outside line or can i just get the box, connect it to the tv and thats it?
Yes that's the same setup as we have. Sky+ downstairs and freeview upstairs. Just plug the box into your TV and you are good to go. An exernal aerial will help to pick up a better signal.
so the freeview box does need to be connected to an aerial. problem is i have no aerial connection in the room and it would take quite a bit of drilling and ar*ing about to put one in. it is possible without the aerial
You won't get much of a reception. It's not like the good ol' days where the picture goes a bit snowy if it doesn't get good reception. With digital, the picture freezes into blocks of squares.
If you've no aerial, I really wouldn't advise it. Couldn't you tap into the aerial you already have for your other TVs?
No it's not possible without an aerial. The signal is broadcast from the transmitter and has to have an aerial to be received.
You might get away with using an indoor aerial, but that would on produce a satisfactory result if you live somewhere where the signal is quite "strong".
I live in the south west and we are the first to switch over which happened last week. I can see a huge proplem with getting digital signal to multiple tv's in a household. Obviously if you have a modern house. you will have aerial points around the house. If (like ours) it is around 15years old and you only have one aerial socket you got problems.
