I have some videos in .avi format that I want to put onto a DVD that can then be played in a normal DVD player. Forgive me for being dense, but can I do that? If so, can anyone recommend good software for the burning process (preferably free!)

Thanks!

Take a look at this list it offers both free and pay for programmes.

I also have Nero which will do the job but I also use convertX to DVD which I paid for.
Hi,
The best one I've used is Sothink DVD creator , which is freeware and wil do what you want converting and burning avi files to DVD compatible discs.

I've also used Nero which seemed to work for a while then started crashing the pc at 99% complete, turning out coasters and all sorts of hdd problems.
