A very small number of prisoners might have internet access while taking part in certain courses (e.g. to provide them with office skills for seeking employment when they leave prison) but such access would be directly monitored, requiring specific permission for every site accessed.

There was of course the recent case of a prisoner who kept his Facebook page up to date from prison (including prison photos) all done via an interner connection via his mobile.

I have read of a few cases involving mobiles being used in prison- eg organising drug deals, beatings etc -and wondered why it isn't possible to block all signals within the prison
