boiler kettling

When i switch on my heating it fires up ok but within 20 seconds or so it starts banging and clicking ( kettling ) . I think i need to drain the system to get rid of an airlock or air pocket . Can anyone advise me on how to go about this?-

If you look at the top ends of your radiators there is normally a little square valve at one end which you open with a small radiator key which, if you don't already have one, you should be able to get from B & Q or any good hardware/building supply shop. Wait until the heating is switched on and pumping water around the system and then gently use the radiator key to slot over the end value and turn it until it partly opens, when you should get some air and water running out. Have a jam jar or cloth handy to absorb any water which dribbles out with the surplus air so carpets don't let leaked upon as the water could be a little rusty. . You may have to do this to all your radiators to eliminate the problem.

PlLEASE NEVER bleed your rads while the boiler is on or the pump is running. Make sure everything is turned off before you start bleeding radiators , otherwise you are going to make any problem worse than what it is.If your boiler starts banging within 20 secs of turning it on, it sounds like your pump has burnt out. Depending on what type of system you have got, and the age of your boiler, its a bit difficult to say exactly whats wrong. If you feel the pump after its been on 10mins and its red hot , thats where your problem lies, but i would get a decent gas safe enginer to come and check your system/boiler.
