When I was a child (many moons ago) I used to have a small whisle/buzzy thing which was placed between the roof of the mouth and the tongue.

It consisted of a small  semi circular piece of metal with a thin piece of rubber stretched accross it.

Does anyone know what I'm on about and if so, what are they called and where can I buy them?

I think you are talking about a Swazzle as used in Punch & Judy - you can read about it here http://www.punchandjudy.com/swazzle.htm .

Its hows how to make one, and if you scroll to the bottom, where to buy them from

Thanks for that Pinotage. It sounds similar to the thing I was on about but a slightly different design.

Sometimes known as a Shepherds Whistle. You can make one by drilling a hole in a circle of aluminium and folding it in half.

Alternatively have a brilliant day out at 'The Big Sheep' in Devon next summer and buy yourself a plastic one.

Your spouse/friends will all soon hate you.
