did u get a soft cloth with ur tv, is it lcd plasma? i usually just wipe it over with the cloth i got with it(lcd) its like the cloth u get with new glasses.
I use cleaning fluid for computer screens and soft cloth or spectacle cleaner with cloth
a damp soft cloth or kitchen roll and a solution of water and a few drops (3-4) of washing up liquid
for all types of screens , pc or tv
I'd love to see your list of ways NOT to clean it.
The only ones I can come up with are scourers, Brillo pads, and sandpaper
...battery acid's probably not great, either.

If your TV is an CTR (one of those heavy lumpy things) you can use any window cleaner. For an LCD, clean the screen with a soft cloth and warm water to get most of the dirt/(smoke) off.
When dry, mix an even solution of isopropyl alcohol and clean water in a spray bottle and spray and wipe the screen lightly, this will get rid of those streaky marks.
Get Isopropyl alcohol from the chemist, one bottle will last you for years.

Not too sure about using cleaner fluid, there is a plastic cover over the LCD screen to stop anti-glare.
