Is it true that if you use a digital tuner on your TV, it cannot be detected by TV licence detector equipment?

I think I'm right in saying that TV detector vans detect when a TV is on and emitting the electrons that make a picture.  It doesn't matter what sort of tuner the TV has but how it makes a picture.  Therefore, CRT (Cathode Ray Tube) type TVs are suseptible to detector vans whereas LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) or Plasma screen TVs aren't.

The use of van with spinning roof racks is either non existant or greatly reduced.

The reason they ask for your address when you buy a TV now is that they have a register of all address, those that bought TV's in the last however many years and those that have paid their licence. Much easier than transits that atract pigeons, they just use a database.
