Digital Radio..no reception

I spent almost £50 on a Pure Digital Radio after entering my postcode into a site which said I'd get most channels. I got it yesterday and can't find a single station. We live in a village which is in a valley so have to assume this is the reason. But I have friends who can get reception a mile down the road which is weird.I can't even get good reception on FM.
Do I have a valid reason to return the radio for a refund or shall I just try to sell it to someone?
Not sure what to do.I'm a bit gutted.

First of all i would try it at your friends house to see if it will work there.You may have a faulty set.

I had the same problem. Cured it by attaching some 1mm copper wire as an extension to the ariel. Just wrap bare wire round ariel and extend upwards as far as you can. My ariel is now 9ft long and radio works fine.

If you couldn't get good FM reception it is unlikely you will get better digital. At least not until the FM is turned off and the digital signal is put up to full power. Do you know when this is due to happen in your area?

Hi scotman, I am afraid that when the TV analogue signal is turned off, it will make no difference to digital radio.
Analogue radio is not going to be switched off until 2015 at the very earliest and more likely around 2020

i have a "pure" dab in a good reception area and it will only work in one position in our house ,not very impressed,cant say the sound is any better than vhf either which i had no problems with,that will teach me not to keep up with the Jones !

What i dislike most about DAB is if you lose the signal, its gone, nothing. At least with anoglogue it just faded a bit but you could still hear something. I listen to talk radio most, and it's so anoying missing snippetts of chat.

Further to Denis's comment. I was thinking(but didn't make it clear) about radio channels on Freeview which I listen to. What is your TV reception like? Can you get Freeview where you are?

Thanks for all your replies and I apologise for delay in looking back. I've tried the radio all over the house,no stations at all. We have cable TV so not sure if we can get Freeview here. I'm not sure when Digital will be here on Full Power. All in all I've wasted my money so I think I'll try to sell the radio and listen to it through Virgin on my TV instead.Thanks again for taking the time to reply.
