What have been the effects of the use of the proportional electoral systems in the UK?

i would really appreciate it if you could help me with this question. Thankyou

Northern Ireland is the key one here - STV means both Loyalists and Republicans can have fair representation in the Assembly. Also means the UK is becoming more democratic, and maybe, just maybe, a government will be brave enough to make the 'Westminster' system proportinal too.
