You need to be able to get into the oven when its hot.  Dishwasher designers aren't as clever as washing machine designers.  Or, because the washing machine has a massive rotating part that'll break your arm if you shove it in there.  I'd guess that if you open the dishwasher door mid-cycle it'll switch itself off, like microwave ovens do.  But to be honest, anyone who does open the doors to things while they're running shouldn't be let out into the community, or anywhere, un-supervised.

So Skids how do you get things out of the oven, fridge or freezer?

Laner: the oven, fridge and freezer don't contain mechanical moving parts at potentially dangerous speeds. Hence use of the verb "Running". I think that is what Skids was referring to.
Thank you romko.

The reason you can't open the washing machine is actually in case you overuse the machine.

Until the door catch is open, it is not ready to be used again. It is purely a safeguard in that respect - all the water would have drained away by then.

oneeyedvic - doesn't it take time to unload and load a wasing machine?  How can you over use a washing machine?

Isn't the point hobsonbear  is making about the dangers of burning and scalding valid?

Sorry - I definitely typed washing.  Or was I combining washing and machine and creating a new appliance!

Not sure that once the washing machine has finishd you would get scolded by anything - the spinning cycle would have taken any hot water out of the machine.

Yes it does take time to unload/load machine, but the door is locked so that in theory if you just had one sock in there and wanted to wash another sock straight away you could.

I assume that manufacturers don't want it used continuously (as they are not designed to be) and hence the locking catch.

Whopos - I meant scalded by anything - however my wife would probably scold me.....
Burnt by opening hot oven, scalded by dishwasher water - these you can do. Arm twisted from shoulder socket by washing machine because you opened it when it was still spinning - this you can't.
Still think hobsonbear is making a valid point. I don't see how you can overuse a wahing machine. I wonder if RoSPA has any statistics?
