Shower

Shower suddenly has no hot water! it is a gravity shower but, for reasons beyond me I've no hot water. Hot water to all the rest of the taps in the house is ok so, has anyone an idea what to do next other than the bl''dy obvious of getting a plumber? Any help greatly appreciated B.

Probably no help to you, but a couple of times we suddenly got no water at all from our wall mounted mixer shower.

The cure? Put the shower head down in the bath as low as possible, and hey presto it starts running again.

feel if the tank is hot.....could be an air-lock?

AlBags, the shower is wall mounted and, has a mixer valve for adjusting the flow and the temperature. Have turned the valve to the hottest possible setting and ---nothing. Have descaled the head, yet again, just to be sure nd still no hot water. Grateful for your help so far B.

If it is a "thermostatic" mixer (supposed to mantain temperature set) then I expect the thermostatic cartridge may have failed. This is quite common on thermostatic mixers. But you have not said if just a standard mixer or a thermostatic mixer.
Is it integrated in the bath taps or set in the wall?
Any names anywhere?

AlBags, thanks again. The shower is fixed to the wall and the name Triton is on the mixer control. Does this give you the info you need? B.

Triton. So an instant shower then ? In which case the hot water elsewhere in the house is not significant.

Could be a broken thermostat. Could be scale messing up stuff inside.

Needs someone competent to look at it. Maybe time for a new one.

Check to see if someone has inadvertantly switched the shower's electric isolating switch off. It could be a pull cord switch or a switch outside the bathroom. It not check the fuse/circuit breaker, or it may have an earth leakage trip fitted that has tripped.

That last answer is rubbish as Triton make mixer valve showers too.

What make/model is it?

As mentioned, it is most likely the cartrdge that has failed, or to be more precise, the thermostat has seized.

We had this problem, and had to get a new mixer unit.
