The remote site that we use to generate our avatars - has anyone else had trouble with *their* cache?
I uploaded a temporary avatar then tried to change it back and it wouldn't clear in Gravatar for ages.
I cleared *my* cache, erased ALL of the avatars then re-uploaded a couple but that still didn't make any difference.
Maybe we have to assume that by "5 or 10 minutes" they actually mean up to an hour or more.

Thank God you're back! One AOG at a time is enough.
Mine took ages when I originally did it, but I've had this one for some six months now.

I've made another one Mike ;-) I'll save it for a rainy day.
There are at least two caches working in regards to your avatar...

The first one is on gravatar itself, they have core servers where all your information is stored and edge servers which are the fast ones that the information is actually used from and the edge servers cache your avatar for upto 20min (I think that's what it said when I actually was bothered to read their FAQ)

You then have the cache on your computer, you can clear this cache but until the cache that gravatar use has been updated you won't see any changes.

There may even be at least one other cache in action as some ISPs operate a cache to reduce their bandwidth usage and if your isp is one that does that can further delay the avatar updating.

Thanks for that CF - in that case it's a good job we have the ability to switch it on and off this end.
I've had a few swap almost instantaniously.
ermm? I am total lost on this, i just want an avatar, I call it my picture next to my name, I found the picture, its the scottish widows advert woman, the spitting image of me walking through my wood. can anyone help??? is the ed any use on this, please don't ask me to do anything complicated, I've done what I can. Prudentia, xxx
Prudentia, you have to go to gravatar.com and upload your gravatar there in the first place - have you done that yet? BTW when we started having gravatars, some people cautioned us against using trademarked pictures (which the Scottish Widows lady may be) in case of copyright issues.
boxtops, thank you so much, I never thought of that, I should have my own picture taken and enter that for my avatar, thank you so much, Prudentia xxx
