Do we waste money making petrol up to round pounds?

Like many others with a tidy mind when we put fuel into our cars and finish by gently clicking the nozzle lever for the last few pence to get to even pounds..... do we get any fuel?

I suspect not, so in order for us to get what we are paying for would it not be better to have the hoses dangling downwards so that the last of the fuel is gravity assisted?

Probably another elf'n safety issue, we will soon have to wear a Hi-Vis jacket....

Is there an allowance for any shortage built in by the weights and measures/trading standards people?

so you think that the pump clicks and just adds money on without dispensing anything?

so if you spend £40 just by little clicks of the pump you wouldnt put any fuel in your car at all?

Well in that case don't you get the first bit free that was left over from the previous purchaser, so it all balances out

... where I get my fuel from, doc, we have a separate hose for each fuel type.
Isn't the valve at the end of the hose? i.e. the hose is always full of fuel.

Surely the valve that stops the fuel is in the handle end of the hose not the pump end?
The weights and measures test for petrol pumps tests the calibration of the pumps and has to be between -0.03% to + 0.05% and the last part of the check will be done by gently clicking the pump on and off.
I live under the misapprehension that if I tilt the petrol hose into the tank just as I am finishing off I get the extra petrol that is in the hose. Done it my whole life. Whether I get any extra petrol is anyone's guess.

I don't round up, either.

Why would anyone bother doing that?
There is no extra petrol in the depensing end other than what has been paid for, The hose is always full then bit with the handle is the cut off. if you press gently to get a few pence to round up the figure you get a few pence worth of fuel. When the pump has stopped raise the handle with the open end pointing vertically downward into your tank and you will have got all that you have paid for, rattle side to side and get a drip more still what you have paid for! Surely this is 100% obvious!
