Cordless Phone Charging Bases

Just got a set of cordless phones. Should the charging bases be on constantly with the phones in them, or should phones be left out of them once they are fully charged?
Instructions with phones don't really tell you anything about this!

They are for recharging primarily. They are designed to sit in the cradle, but take them with you if you need to until you need to charge them again. It does no harm leaving them in, and of course even with a little use, the battery just gets topped up - far better than running them down to empty.
Yes, leave the phones on the cradle.

However to prolong the life of the battery it is apparently advisable to fully discharge and fully recharge them every few months.
