I just took delivery of a toilet seat but there are no pre drilled grooves in the hinge to take the splines that hold the seat in place. I could send it back but return postage is more than i paid for it. Is there a hand tool or drill bit i can buy to cut the grooves in to it? Many thanks

Go to Screwfix and buy a router and bits. Will only cost you about £60 and then about £20 for some bits.
You can therefore easily fix your toilet seat for about £80 only.
Alternatively get the seller to change it. Unless you got it cheap from a guy at bthe pub......

If it's faulty then the retailer you purchased it from is responsible for paying the postage to return it.

Thanks. I would like to know if there is something i can buy to sort it all the same?
Why pay out more money for something that is faulty, get the retailer to sort the problem out for you. Its amazing what they will do if they think that they may get bad press and a poor reputation
I may well be wrong, but I suspect you've bought the wrong toilet seat and it doesn't have the fixings you expected.

Yes you would be wrong!
Fair enuff :-))
I had problems with a loo seat I bought online last year. I emailed the company attaching a photo I'd taken on my phone.............they emailed me and told me to bin the one they'd sent, and sent me another one.

Hi. I really would just like to know if there is a tool to do the job. Many thanks
So what shape slot do you need to cut? T-shaped?

Hi. I need to bore a screw groove in to the toilet seat hinge to take the spline. It is simply a long straight screw that need to go in to a 8mm deep hole but it hasnt been pre machined so need to do it manually
Stop eating, and you won't need a toilet seat...

I am not understanding what you are asking about. Who is the manufacturer and what part number?

So you just need a threaded hole for a screw to go into, just go to your nearest tool shop and take the offending seat with you.
