My quote arrived, it was £x with £400 excess. I've just phoned them, told them I've got comparative quotes, they've dropped the price by forty quid and lowered the excess to £250. One satisfied customer - rah!

I insure with company where I live and for the past 3 years they have increased premium by large amount so I just take up quotes that I have done on computer and they soon reduce it .
Not surprised at all , unfortunately it does not pay to be loyal when it comes to renewing insurance, every year for the past four years I have been getting alternative quotes or say I am not paying any more than the past year, usually the costs comes down, to what I am happy to pay , if they don't then I will change Companies. If they can't be loyal to me then I will not be loyal to them.
Same here with buildings and contents insurance. Last year £284, this year £380 and with no claims being made! I had the conversation along the lines 'if you're going to make me waste my time looking for alternative quotes, I'll probably insure elsewhere out of sheer irritation'. Result.. would I renew at £292, the increase reflecting inflation.
I switch every year now. I used to ring the insurance company and ask for a reduction but once I discovered that home contents and buildings insurance bought together costs an average of about £125 - £175, depending on post code, I decided the searching was worth it. We had been paying up to £300 for the two together.
