You can add him as a named driver to your own policy if he really is just a named driver, make sure you use a company who award NCB fo named drivers though as many don't.
How ever you do it insurance for a 19 year old male is going to be VERY EXPENSIVE , don't expect any change out of £2000 even to add him as a named driver . Insuring his own car is going to be a lot more probably at least £3500 . You have to remember that 1 in 3 teenage drivers have a accident and make a claim inside the first year!

Eddie we used the comparison websites and Collingwood insurance came out cheapest on each one for my son as main driver, but it might be because he hasn't yet passed his test. We are expecting it to go up when he does. My point was really that if we looked at insuring the car in our name the quote went up enormously to have him as a named driver.
To give some idea, I asked about adding my son 23, as a named driver for occasional use of my car. I pay £230 a year fully comp, they wanted to put it up to £2100 , I looked at all the web sites but the best I could get was £1800 . That is for a 23 year old a 19 year old would be far more expensive.
I could not afford it so I am insured just for me.

Bluescorpion Yes it will go up a lot and I mean a lot when he has passed the test as he will be driving unaccompanied .
There is an extra test called Pass Plus which the young driver could do after the ordinary test , it costs around £150 but gives a discount on the insurance.
They say the discount is a lot more than the cost of the extra test , up to 30% .
