What constitutes an accident? Does opening a passenger car door on a very windy day which subsequently slightly leaves a mark on another parked car, an act of nature?
The cars were both parked on private land.
As the incident cost nothing ( a good friend mended the dent) & the car was known to us, do we need to tell either insurance company?
No one hurt, no cost involved.
If you both agree and are happy with the outcome it would be better not to. Even with no claim the ins co will record it as an incident and your premiums may go up next time.
It is an accident.
Do not tell the insurance company as they will use it to put your premium up.
They will say it means you have a history of accidents and charge you more even though you were not at fault and did not claim.
dotty no matter who opened the door it is the driver who is insured and who's insurance has to pay. That is if you report it !
I know someone who's 10 year old child managed to start the car and hit the car in front at a car park , the drivers insurance still had to pay out !
