just bought car, work away from home on oil rig but if insurance companies know that they will i assume think i am loaded. i want cheapest possible insurance cover available, what is best comparison site ? what should i say in application form ? i have heard that if i give my sisters address in a nearby villiage ( less crime area ) it will be cheaper. as i say it is just to get me by and cover me incase it is vandalised or stolen. i will only drive it once a month when home.

My best advice is for you to be absolutely honest on the proposal form, as any little "inaccuracies" will come back to haunt you if you have to make a claim.

I would say, Never lie to an insurance company. It is just not worth it. They will find out if it is never parked at your sister's address for any length of time.

hi, i would also say the same. they don't load it because they assume you are rich, they load it because you are probably in a high risk group

We are with Alliance and I would have thought that only using the car once a month would make it cheaper, as long as it was in a secure garage when you were on the rig. Sainsbury's were cheaper but we decided to stick with Alliance and got a slightly better price than originally quoted.

Try a company that bases its premium on the annual mileage that you will be doing. This will be very low I presume as you say you will only be driving it 12 times per annum.

Don't lie about the address. Your own address will be on your driving licence and MOT - it's all cross-referable on line these days.
